About seven letter words
Seven letter words matter most to Scrabble players. A Scrabble rack holds seven tiles, and playing all seven in one word, called a bingo, earns a 50-point bonus on top of the word's score. That's why so many people search for a 7 letter word using the letters on their rack. Common endings make it easier: -ING (nothing, morning, evening) and -ION (million, section, opinion) are the most useful to look for, along with -ED and -ER. Seven letter words also form some well-known anagram sets, like teacher, cheater and hectare, or eastern, nearest and earnest.
Tips for seven letter words
To find a bingo on a Scrabble rack, look for common endings first. If you hold I, N and G, set them aside and look for a four letter word in the rest. Do the same with E and D, or E and R. Racks with a good mix of vowels and common consonants, like E, A, R, S, T, I and N, make the most seven letter words, which is why many players hold on to those letters. If your rack has two or more high-value tiles, a seven letter play is usually unlikely, so a shorter, high-scoring word is often the better move.
